Kader Attia's exhibition at the Hayward Gallery showcased work that he took since the early 2000 showing the transgender people he’s photographed in Paris who are illegal immigrants from Algeria, many working in the sex trade.
Attia aims to describe their world fully: not just the difficulties but the moments of happiness. Showing the curious existence being caught between expressing their identities and remaining hidden.
I really liked this exhibition and i think the work had a compelling nature to it, showing an underground world thats been pushed away by society. The photos are a completely raw exploration of this world and i think thats what makes them so powerful.
